Niccolò Perotti, Archbishop of Siponto, lived in Viterbo, as Rector of the Patrimonio di S. Pietro in Tuscia, from the end of 1464 to the beginning of 1469. His time in office is recalled in a number of sources (mainly chronicles and municipal riformanze), however, their contradictory contents do not allow a definite assessment of his activities. This article suggests a new interpretation of the sources, taking into account the historical events of the Patrimony in the fifteenth century and the political repercussions of the works written by Perotti, or by other men of letters of his circle, in Viterbo.
